I've opened a new shop!

I'm really excited you share with you all the opening of my new shop. The main collection is from my Forgotten Birds series. They are printed on 300gsm Trucard and come with a White Laid envelope. I am hoping to branch out into different formats (looking at fabric options at the moment!). I would love to do customisable pieces, if there is anything you think would work well or you would like to see, please let me know :)

The Mumsnet Book of Bedtime Stories, Paperback

The paperback version of 'The Mumsnet Book of Bedtime Stories' is out today! It includes the story I illustrated written by Philip Bell about two children spending the night at their grandma's cottage underneath a lighthouse.You can find more about 'Bedtime at the Lighthouse' on my website

Also, excitingly today is the release of 'The Mumsnet Book of Animal Stories', which is the second in the edition which resulted from the nationwide competition held by Walker Books, Mumsnet and Gransnet. This one includes a beautiful story illustrated by my classmate Narisa Togo. Buy it Here

And last, but definitely not least! Katie May Green's stunning debut picture book (also a fellow classmate) 'Seen and not Heard' published by Walker Books is out today.

The Book Illustration Competition 2014, top 25 announced!

I am very happy to announce my entry for the House of Illustration and Folio Society Competition to illustrate Heart of Darkness has been longlisted in the top 25

The winner and 5 runners up will be announced at the award ceremony in September, in the meantime you can view the other top 25 entries here

Heart of Darkness

Back in January I submitted my entry for the Book Illustration Competition run by the House of Illustration and the Folio Society. This years book was the 'Heart of Darkness' by Joseph Conrad. We were asked to complete a binding design and three internal illustrations. Each illustration was completed in Pen & Ink and coloured in Photoshop.

 

 ‘Black shapes crouched, lay, sat between the trees leaning against the trunks, clinging to the earth, half coming out, half effaced within the dim light…’

‘Sticks, little sticks, were flying about—thick: they were whizzing before my nose, dropping below me, striking behind me against my pilot-house.’

‘His covering had fallen off, and his body emerged from it pitiful and appalling as from a winding-sheet.’

...

‘I am lying here in the dark waiting for death.’

New Home, Pen & Ink

For Christmas this year, I decided to draw a portrait of the house my brother and his girlfriend have just brought. (This is their first house together, so I really wanted to do something to mark the occasion)

I used it as an excuse to get my dip pen and ink out again and I really enjoyed experimenting with the different tones, patterns and textures.

Contemporary Angles - Art 1821

Last Friday night I attended the private view for the 'Contemporary Angles' group exhibition at the Art 18/21 gallery in Norwich. The show included pieces by myself, Guy Allen, Louis Hudson, Tom Lamprell, Henry Jackson Newcomb, Isabel Rock and Coleen Self and was put together to celebrate new talent from the region.

The exhibition will run until the 27th November 2013, open from 10am - 5pm, Tuesday - Friday and 10am -  4pm Saturdays. At Art 18/21, Augustine Steward House, 14 Tombland, Norwich, NR3 1HF. (Opposite Norwich Cathedral Gate)
