One Image

My work usually starts with one image, I have a vague idea about what I want to do, but it takes this process in the first image to help me start to realise what it is I want to achieve.
This is the image inspired my latest project 'Forest', which I'll be showing at my
MA show in February

Images 36

I'm delighted to say that my image from 'The Museum' has been selected to appear in the AOI's Images 36 annual

It's funny how much my work has progressed and changed through the MA, seeing this image again though is tempting me to return to working purely in graphite

New Website

I gave myself the day off yesterday after the final crit on my MA. It's scary to think it's nearly the end, but very inspiring to see all the incredible work my classmates have produced.

Therefore yesterday I started playing around with putting a new website together on Cargo Collective (which will be is now linked to joanneyoungillustration.co.uk very soon)
It's still a bit of a work in progress, but here's a little sneak peak at it here

Sketches

New Narrative......

Along with posting update images from my narrative sequence 'The Museum Walk', I want to show all you lovely people my latest project. It was inspired primarily by 'The Big Fish Fight' on TV, where issues on over fishing and excessive bi catching were discussed.

My narrative follows a tuna's journey.

Updates to follow

The Museum Walk

Posting a little late after it was produced, my first attempt at Narrative. For this reason I wanted to keep 'The Museum Walk' quite simple, I decided to concentrate on environments rather than character development. One of the ways I wanted to show this was through extreme used of scale, and the contrast in detail between the main character and the museum.

I will post more images from the sequence later.

I now also have a facebook page, so please have a look, and if you want, let me know what you think. thank you :)

Work over the summer

When I start back in September it will be the beginning of my final masters project on my course, so this summer I am going to attempt my best as widening my skills, experimenting and developing drawing characters (as I seem to avoid doing this) and really just to play with illustration. I am going to post here some of my attempts here....

AOI's Images 34

Rather slow posting this on the blog but last summer I was delighted when my work was chosen to be  featured in the AOI's Images 34 Annual and exhibition at the LCC. Showcasing a fantastic range of British Illustration which is currently still on tour (for information visit the AOI's Images website)

Was also very happy to see my work had been commented on by Janet Woolley, which you can see above, in the introduction for 'New Talent'.

Observation Project: 2

Selection of images also from my observational project, where I tried to consider the composition  to create more dramatic scenes. I started to work at a larger format and detail became more key to my work.

This drawing was what inspired my Sequential Image Project, 'A Walk in a Museum'

Observation Project (People)

Observation Project (People)

These are a few Images from my first semester for a observational project, here's a selection of studies based on the interaction between people.

More will hopefully follow soon on some of the other themes I looked at.

Thank you!
